Soyroll

July 5th, 2010

We’ve just got a nice box of leashes and fin savers for the site and boy do they look good. We thought we’d ask the man behind it, Theo Caget, on why he decided to start his own accessory brand, Soyroll.

Tell Boogtique a little about yourself?
Hi i’m Theo. I hail from France… have been bbing since i was a little kid, maybe 7 or 8 y.o. I used to bodyboard at my grand parents place in french Britany but i now live in SW France. Did studies in Paris, skated heaps there and have always been influenced by skateboarding, designs, art and waves i guess. I’m 29 now, my knees hurt from skating and drop kneeing but my love for bbing is intact, hehe same as when i was 8 and rode my first foam wave to the sand.
What was your main drive behind starting Soyroll?

I’ve kind of always wanted to create a brand that would reflect my vision and what i like in term of designs and quality and i felt that what lacked in the bbing industry was a real good accessories brand that would be 100% into bodyboarding and would produce good quality and well designed accessories. I mean there are lots of good boards, a couple really good clothing labels but no brand was specialized in making quality accessories. Soyroll™ was born from that motivation and those observations basically. All Soyroll™ accessories are hi quality products made in the USA and even our garments are made with the highest quality coton, tees and fleeces you can find, it’s screenprinted on american apparel stuff. I wouldn’t have liked to produce something that i wouldnt use or wear myself so i did what i like and what i wanted to see in a brand.
Ace, explain where the name came from?

The name is just a stupid contraction between a few names i thought were cool: Soy Sauce & Sushi Roll mainly. It was also cool to have the “soy” thing in the name because some of our tees are screenprinted with soy-based and water-based inks. It was cool to have that “soy” part in the brand’s name i guess since we put a lot of effort into doing an eco-friendly range of accessories and threads.

What’s the eco spin on it?

All leashes are made with hi-grade recyled urethane (Recycled Urethane Technologies – RUT) and Soyroll™ is the first brand to have done this, yewwwwww – oh yeah and all our packgaging is made with recycled paper+cardboard and waterbased inks for prints. Save the planet one leash at a time ! hahah

Thanks Theo. He’s a bloody nice chap and is also the man behind spongercity.

So if you want to save the environment and don’t want to loose your board. Buy a leash here.

July 2nd, 2010

After Harry Dixon passed name onto the new owner, Toby Simms, we all wondered if he could live up to the VU name and keep the good designs coming. They just launched a handful of new tee’s on their facebook page and its safe to say that Harry would be proud  of what Toby’s doing with the company. We look forward to getting it into Boogtique!!

Plus they’re giving away 5 free tees to fans on facebook. go check it out.

Found

July 1st, 2010

Mitch Rawlins has finally released his new board company Found.
With prices a little to excessive for the Uk/Europe market, but with a solid shape, great colours and with a man like Mitch behind it, I’m sure they’re are going to do well. We look forward to seeing what happens over their first year of business. Good luck.

South African competitor Daniel Worsely has taken out the 2010 Brett Young Shark Island Trials at Cronulla Point under crisp winter skies.
Todays competition was tough from the first heat. When the international field shaped up at first light the waves were small but conditions where perfect and highly contestable. With small tricky condition some of the closest heats in the events history were recorded with most place getters being only separated by less than point.
By the time the final hit the water spectators were treated to an intense battle for the top 2 places which would guarantee a position into the main event. Local 15 year old ripper Sam Strachen had been on fire all competition with solid support from the local crowd, Tom Smith had been dominating all day with clear heat wins as was Shaun Peterson showing solid wave knowledge and landing big moves. South African Daniel Worsley was on fire all day and from the opening minutes of the final he shown everyone he was out for a win linking big moves on the outside and finishing strong on the inside section.
After 30 minutes of tough competition the results were read out and a new event winner was announced. Daniel Worsely and Sam Strachan had finished first ad second and earned themselves a place in Bodyboarding’s biggest Australian event.
Dan said ” It’s awesome to be able to win this event and the biggest reward is being able to compete in the main event its just amazing”.

The Masked Ball

May 27th, 2010

he Masked Ball 2010 was undoubtedly THE best Masked Ball yet.  The Main tent was rocking to the incredible sounds of Japayork, and Ou est le Swimming Pool live aswell as top DJ sets from Hongkong pingpong, Luke Gledhill, Kid Cola, Jac The Disco and Louis Vanhinsberg.

The Masked Ball Inn went down a storm and we literally had to peel away some people from the Sega Megadrive and sonic at 6am, Sir Vinyl of the Fattest and Robin Parris had the place jumping from sunset to sunrise and the 3Cs bboys turned up to throw some shapes.

The courtyard at beaconham palace housed a giant turntable dance podium, whilst inside the castle walls the throne was rocked by residential dance home and friends.   Even the occasional short shower didn’t dampen the spirit, and some lucky party goers found solace in the secret spaceship shot bar located through the dragons mouth, created by the wonderkids from barnfest.

A massive thank you to all those of you who contributed to make this event so special and successful.  We shall return for a new Masked Ball 2011.
